The Mataran Sailing Team is a dynamic group of five sailing enthusiasts from the Sailing Club Trogir in Croatia. They have quickly made a name for themselves in the Melges 24 Class and are aiming high, striving to reach new heights in the competitive sailing world.

Entering the regatta world with a splash, they achieved remarkable results. In their first year of Melges 24 sailing, they secured 1st place in the European Championship – Corinthian Division and earned 2nd place overall at the Melges 24 European Championship.

More Information

Following their triumphant debut, the team has continued to excel in the sailing world, winning multiple prestigious events, including the Megles 24 World Championship - Corinthian Division. This division is specifically for sailors holding a World Sailing Group 1 categorization, allowing them to compete for dedicated trophies in a fair racing environment.

The crew consists of four core sailors, along with a rotating bowman. The heart of the crew includes Ante Botica as the helmsman, Mario Škrlj as the tactician, Ivo Matić as the trimmer, and Damir Civadelić as the first bowman. The second bowman is usually a young sailor from their Sailing Club in Trogir. For high-stakes regattas however, the team opts for a more experienced bowman.

In 2024, the Mataran Sailing Team faced their biggest challenge yet: the Melges 24 World Championship in the United States, held in the demanding waters of San Francisco Bay. Despite a shaky start, the crew made an impressive comeback and secured their second consecutive world championship title in the Corinthian Division, along with the coveted “Challenge Henri Samuel Corinthian World Trophy.”
