Team Out of the Box is a remarkable Dutch women's team, competing at the highest levels of match racing since 2019. Comprised of exceptional sailors from diverse sailing backgrounds, the team was formed with one goal in mind: to win gold. From national champions in dinghy sailing to seasoned offshore sailors, each member brings unique strengths and invaluable experience to the team.

In match racing, the competition is divided into distinct tactical phases. One critical moment is the pre‑start, where teams engage in a strategic dance to gain an advantage before the actual race begins. This maneuvering occurs within a designated area called "the box". However, the team likes to take a more creative and unpredictable approach, also known as "Out of the Box".

More Information

Match racing is a highly tactical sailing discipline where two identical boats race head-to-head. The trailing boat must use effective boat handling and keen awareness of wind and currents to overtake the leader, who in turn deploys blocking techniques to maintain their advantage. This duel demands a blend of skill, strategy, and teamwork, making it one of the most thrilling and challenging branches of sailing.

With every new race comes a new boat, requiring the team to quickly adapt to different designs and handling characteristics. This constant change pushes the sailors to be highly versatile, as each boat can significantly alter race strategy and performance. The ability to rapidly adjust to the new vessels is crucial, challenging the teams to refine their tactics on the fly.

Team Out of the Box continually pushes the boundaries of both their boats and their own capabilities. Their exceptional performance was highlighted by winning the Austrian Match Racing Gold Cup in 2022 and securing a top 10 spot in the Women’s World Match Racing Rankings by 2023. With their competitive mindset and relentless drive, they’re set to make waves and stay a major force in match racing for years to come.
