Tormund Racing
In 2022, Jan Meincke, the current owner, acquired the SY Tormund and assembled a crew including both family members and close friends. Their vision was to introduce a competitive boat into the Baltic Sea's ORC (Offshore Racing Congress) circuit.
The boat’s name honors Tormund Giantsbane from Game of Thrones. The previous owner’s love for the series and Tormund’s impressive, powerful character inspired this choice, reflecting the strength and boldness the owner saw in the boat.
The 11 meter boat is an X-TREME 32, designed by Reichel/Pugh and constructed by G-Force Yachts. This high-performance racing yacht is one of only two X-TREME 32s ever made, with Tormund being the sole one in Europe. Its advanced design and precision engineering make it a standout in the sailing world, offering a blend of speed, agility, and cutting-edge technology.
The crew boasts an impressive background, with many members beginning to sail between the ages of 5 and 7 in Optimist dinghies at the Kieler Yacht Club. Over the years, they transitioned to more demanding Olympic classes such as the ILCA 7, 470, and 49er, gaining valuable experience and expertise.
Despite their young age, the Tormund crew is brimming with potential and charting a successful course in the competitive sailing world. In 2022, they claimed the traveling trophy for the fastest yacht at the Kieler-24h-Regatta and secured a podium finish in the Otto-Schütt-Pokal the following year. These early achievements highlight their exceptional skill and determination, signaling a promising future.
